I was immediately attracted to this 1963 muumuu pattern. It is a quick and easy pattern to sew that also really embodies the era. I wanted to make it in a “mod” print and found this stretch cotton sateen at Mood Fabrics that was just perfect. I was also able to score a roll of bias tape in the perfect color to use.

Though I had planned to make View A, I didn’t have quite enough fabric and settled for View C. I was able to add a little extra length. I needed to drop the bust dart a bit as I usually do with vintage styles and shaped the side seams a bit. I have a narrow rib cage and curvier hips. It’s not enough to change the loose fit of the garment though.

I folded the bias tape in half and sewed it on by machine in one pass. It was tricky to get the corners mitered but I managed. I then opened out the bias tape to make the bows. Since I had over 10 yards of the bias, I also decided to use it to finish off the facings.

I had a muumuu in the seventies, and this one really brings back that look. I like that it’s loose and breezy and will be perfect for lounging around the pool.
