This design will print 2 panels across a 50" piece of fabric. One yard will work perfectly for a skirt. I used it to make a straight elastic waist skirt. This is the same pattern and construction technique that I use for my Venetian skirt series. It is a straight skirt with shaped side seams and a 1-1/4" wide elastic waistband. The skirt is lined with nylon tricot. If I have a knit garment that calls for a lining I almost always use nylon tricot. Since many slips are also made of this fabric, it makes a great lining for many garments. I buy a couple of yards in black, white and off-white. Nylon tricot often comes ins 108" widths so a little goes a long way.
I cut the skirt with one panel for the front and one for the back. I attached the completed lining to the completed skirt at the top and then created a casing for my elastic. I had the design printed on Sport Lycra which prints with vibrant colors and deep blacks. It also holds up well to washing. This type of skirt is also a great way to showcase an interesting panel print.
